  1. When you are looking down at the strings, the thinnest string is the top line. The / means you slide from the 7th fret to the 5th.
  2. Epitome of innocence is right.the / means to slide. If you see a \ it would indicate a slide down. The 5p4 means play a note on the 5th fret,of whatever string its on then pull-off to the 4th fret on the same string. To do a pull-off.you would put a finger on each of the frets(the 5th and 4th,in this case)then pick the note of the 5th fret, let it ring for the specified count, then without picking pull your finger off the string, while leaving your other finger on the 4th fret, which will sound that note. If you see 5p4h5p4h5,then you have a pull-off and hammer-on run.Another word for that is trill.anyway a hammer-on is the opposite of a pull-off.and when you have a run, then you only need to pick the 1st note, and let the p's and h's sound the notes. It makes for a really smooth legato run.Good luck and don't get discouraged.
