2. you will see tabs like this: e---0-----3----5------|-----0----3------6--5---| a-----------------------|---------------------------| d-----------------------|---------------------------| g-----------------------|---------------------------| b-----------------------|---------------------------| e-----------------------|---------------------------| this is part of smoke on the water. the first note of the song is an open pluck on the low e string, symbolized by the {0}. you would play that note, and then for the next note, move your finger down to the 3rd fret and press down and pluck the low e(the fattest string on your gittumupitar) basically, for every number you see on each string, thats the fret/string you put your finger on and play.
